About the Tour:
Since 1888 the mysterous 'Whitechapel Murders' have intrigued Londoners and the world at large. Where facts and legend meet and blur, the folklore surrounding these crimes continues to fascinate historical researchers and the public imagination to this day.
For the duration of three months starting in August 1888, the poverty-stricken area of Whitechapel was gripped with fear as a series of horrific murders took place that targeted women specifically, the poor unfortunate female prostitutes that lived and worked in the brothels of the area.
They were brutally murdered and mutilated by a killer that was never caught, that the media named 'Jack the Ripper' due to the savage nature of the crimes and a letter (believed to be a hoax) that was sent to the authorities.
The identity of the murderer remains elusive, yet the figure of 'Jack The Ripper' appears in hundreds and hundreds of works of fiction and non-fiction, even instigating the term 'ripperology' to be coined in the 1970's, to refer to the study of this peculiar case by professionals and amateurs alike.
This tour will give you a chance to visit the real-life murder locations in the company of an expert guide. Through sharing facts and stories, they´ll bring to life the living conditions of Victorian London during that era, and you´ll learn the grisly details behind the horrendous murders and the trademark mutilations inflicted by the serial killer.
You´ll also have the chance to try a truly traditional English dish, the famous 'fish & chips', at one of London´s oldest and most authentic 'chippies'. And during the tour you´ll also visit Spitalfields Market and see the Ten Bells pub, rumoured to be Jack The Rippers hunting ground.
